The Kuki Movement for Human Rights

May 10, 2007

The Kuki Movement for Human Rights, the KSO Chandel District, the Hill Tribal Council (Moreh Inpi) feel happy that the Government of Manipur, under the leadership of Pu Phungjathang Tonsing, Hon€ ¦’²able Cabinet Minister, one of the Seniormost Manipur Politicians, a real veteran in Politics could come over to Moreh on May 05, 2007 to see those Kuki refugees taken to Lallim, Myanmar on March 13, 2007 and returned back to Moreh by the kind pressures of Deputy Commissioner through the Additional Deputy Commissioner and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Moreh of Chandel District, Manipur.

The visit has been made after the elapse of one month and seventeen days although Moreh hill town is three hours drive from Imphal, Manipur Capital. Over 600 refugees are being fed by the local people including churches for the said over 48 days, the visit is taken as an emergency visit after several calls have been made, therefore, the visit declares the presence of a Government in Manipur State too. One and all thank the Ministerial team for bringing in one truck full rice and blankets with other relief materials. But one truck load and five tarpaulins will not serve the huge needs.

To compare with anything of this nature has had happened in any corner of Indian continent, say Rail accidents and the like natures, Union Ministers, including the Prime Minister use to fly by Helicopters within hours and visited the spot without any call made by the local people, NGOs etc. None of these incidences are more serious than the kidnapping of 400 Kukis taken to a foreign country and left them at Lallim, (Myanmar) without food and shelter.

There are still some remain in Myanmar and the Government seems pretending not knowing this whereas the local people keep observing the kind of attitude of the ruling Governments. Sooner or later, all the concealments of the truth will be made known and justice will prevail over corruptions and misgovernances of the countries playing game with innocent human lives.

The most Immediate needs are to (1) provide food and shelter to over 600 refugees, (2) clear all landmines planted in Kuki lands, (3) resettle the refugees to their own villages, and (4) sanction food stuffs for two years 2007 and 2008 for those villages missing Jhuming session on account of the counter insurgents operation in their lands, Chandel and Churachandpur Districts in particular and hill areas in Manipur. Tripura State is also in the same condition.

To supply the above needs are Governments€ ¦’² duty, and if the ruling governments claim covering the Kuki lands, it has to clear all problems and peace and tranquility be restored immediately.
