A BRIEF HISTORY
C Strait started a Bible School in Hakha in 1928. During the World War II, the school was closed. To meet the need of the growing churches in the Chin Hills, Bible Schools were opened again in Hakha by the Johnsons, 1948, and in Tedim by the Nelsons, 1947. The said missionaries went home on furlough in 1952.

A Bible School was started again in Tedim in 1953; S T Hau Go was the principal there. Though it was not yet official, S T Hau Go gave the name Zomi Baptist Convention Bible School. The school needed to be moved to Hakha in 1954; R G Johnson was the principal there. The first graduation service was held there in 1956. Johnson printed the name Chin Hills Bible School on the first graduation certificate. The Zomi Baptist Convention Executive Committee officially gave the name Zomi Baptist Bible School in December 1956. The Schools both in Tedim and in Hakha were conducted on middle school level.

Baptist Mission Secretary, E E Sowards, was much concerned for the upgrading of the school into a high school level. And the school was moved from Hakha to Falam, the then District Headquarters, in 1959.

Those years testified the fact that theological education work was mobile, shared for management through qualified leaders, regardless of geographical distance.

Principal David Van Bik proposed to change the name to Zomi Baptist Theological School, and it was adopted, 1960. The school was renamed Zomi Baptist Theological Seminary as proposed by Principal Simon Pau Khan En, in 1974. The year saw offering of the Diploma Course. The present name Zomi Theological College as proposed by principal Chum Awi was adopted in 1983. The year started the B Th degree program. The college was affiliated to the Burma now Myanmar Institute of Theology, Insein, from 1983-1991. Thus the B Th degree was conferred by the BIT for three times: 1988, 1990, 1991.

Noteworthy also is that the 2001 ZTC consultation did not feel a need to change the name of the school.

The college was accepted as a member institute of the Association for Theological Education in South East Asia, ATESEA, in 1982. Every four year visit of the ATESEA Accreditation Commission has made good report upon our degree programs and even our projects. The ZTC BTh was accredited by the ATESEA in 1991.

Since opened, the ZTC has produced Christian ministers and community leaders for 851 in number: certificate and diploma 243; B Th 445; BRE 100; B Min 26; MDiv 34. The ZTC have had a B Th joint-program with four sister schools: Chin Christian College in Hakha, Tedim Theological College, Tedim, and Bethel Theological Seminary, Tahan, Union Theological Seminary, UTC, Matupi. Those ones were already accredited by the ATESEA in 2000, 2004.

Regarding construction work, we have here three stages.

First stage:

Since the school moved to Falam in 1959, for around twenty years, she worked through one main building for students: first level for classrooms and second level for dormitory, with one small kitchen and three residential quarters. Those lovely old buildings already changed into new larger ones.

Second stage:

The first chapel building of 24ft x 40ft doublestorey was constructed and completed in 1980; its construction cost reached to K20,000. This was dismantled in April 2002 and there located is the Golden Jubilee Hall!

The Johnson hall of 24ft x 72ft doublestorey boys dormitory, cost of K70,000, was built in 1982.

The Sowards Memorial Library of 30ft x 60ft doublestorey which cost for 11 lakh kyats was built in 1991-92.

The Laura Villa of 20ftx60ft doublestorey girls dormitory was built in 1992: it cost for 8 lakh kyats.

Third stage:

The threestorey main building with measurement of 24ft x 120ft was completely constructed in 1996-1997; the cost tallied to 55 lakh kyats.

The doublestorey dining hall with measurement of 50ftx30ft; 20ftx30ft was completely constructed in 2000; the cost tallied to 50lakh kyats.

The threestorey golden jubilee hall with measurement of 24ftx40ft; 40ftx40ft was completely constructed in 2002-2003; with cost for 75 lakh kyats.

Fourth stage:
Ngun Bual Memorial Building, NBMB, donated by her children, families of Biak Hlei Mang and sisters, on 31 January 2008; three storey building with measurement of 50x30ft, to be completely constructed in one year term.

Lailun Integrated Development Centre, LIDC, is comprised of four shelters of 18x12ft., five huts for livestock breeding and storage. The centre itself for 110x40ft double storey with residential quarters for 50x30ft double storey has been planned.

The Fourfold Purpose of the ZTC:

To train students for Church ministry and Christian service
To equip students for the build-up of authentic humanity
To produce students, having mission spirit & experiencing mission work
To have fellowship with other seminaries in Myanmar

The ZTC Community Ethos:

This exercises itself with three modes, viz. spiritual formation through community life; intellectual formation through academic pursuit; vocational formation through field education. Hence, discernment and commitment.

Gordon Brown's Open Letter to Aung San Shu Kyi

Posted by: "Suan Tawng" mr.suan@yahoo.com mr.suan

Dear All,

Gordon Browns ii Daw Aung San Shu Kyi tung aa a lai khak a nuai ah na sim ve.

Zomi Sungah,
Suan TawngLondon

//////////// ///////// ///////// ///////// ///////// ///////// ///////// ///////// /////////

Dear Daw Suu,

The Burmese regime continues to resist the righteous clamour from
your people and from the international community for your release. As
you and the Burmese people are denied your democratic rights and
freedoms the only way for me to communicate with you is through this
open letter.

I wanted to publish it to let you know that you are not alone - that
people are standing with you not just here in Britain, but everywhere
that democracy and freedom are upheld.

We are heartened by your tremendous courage, your inspirational
leadership, and by the knowledge that no oppression is so great that
the forces of liberty cannot prevail The history books are full of
stories of injustice. But they are also full of stories of hope,
resistance and the victories that satisfy the deep human yearning to be
free. I am confident that your story will stand prominently among those
that show that from

the deepest wells of despair can come the greatest triumphs of human endeavour.

Inspired by and in solidarity with you, the British Government will
continue to work with our international partners to support Burma´s
path to stability, peace and economic recovery. The UN Security Council
has set out the steps necessary for a return to democracy in Burma. I
have worked with our partners in the EU to maintain sanctions that are
tough and targeted against those individuals who wish to deny the
Burmese people their rights. And I will continue to press your
neighbours in Asia to work even harder for your release and that of all
political prisoners in Burma.

My message to the Burmese regime is clear the people of Burma have
suffered nearly half a century of conflict and isolation, it is time to
embrace a new beginning. So I say to the Generals who imprison you: the
time for a transition to democracy is now. By excluding you from that
future, by silencing and imprisoning you, they condemn your country to

further decades of poverty and exclusion.

Your continued imprisonment reminds all of us that we should not
take for granted the institution of democracy for which you campaign
That we should not rest until you are able to play your rightful role
in a free and secure Burma. And that our place is alongside all those
who face imprisonment, repression and despair in their battle to build
democracy, confront poverty and protect human rights. Daw Suu I want
you to know: you are not alone.

Yours sincerely

Gordon Brown

Nobel laureates: Suu Kyi trial a 'mockery'

Nobel laureates: Suu Kyi trial a 'mockery'

http://edition. cnn.com/2009/ WORLD/asiapcf/ 05/19/myanmar. suu.kyi.trial/ index..html? iref=mpstoryview

YANGON, Myanmar (CNN) -- The trial of Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi -- a proceeding that nine Nobel laureates have called "a mockery" -- entered its second day Tuesday.1 of 3
Prosecutors continued their questioning of the 22 witnesses they have called.
Two of Suu Kyi's maids and an American man who recently swam to her lakeside home also are on trial.

At the end of the first day, Monday, the court had heard from only two of the witnesses.
Diplomatic sources say the government might drag out the legal proceedings for several months, until the media loses interest -- and then quietly extend Suu Kyi's detention well beyond next year's planned elections.

The 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner has been under house arrest for 13 of the past 19 years -- a confinement that the military junta has regularly extended.
The latest extension expires later this month, and Suu Kyi's supporters say the trial provides the government an excuse to continue restricting her movement. Watch more on Suu Kyi's trial »

"The trial is a mockery," the nine Nobel Peace prize winners said in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday, urging him to intervene..
"There is no judicial system in Burma," the letter said. "It is clear that this is an excuse by the military junta to add trumped-up charges at a time when Daw (an honorific) Aung San Suu Kyi's unlawful detention was scheduled to end May 27, 2009."
Signatories to the letter included Costa Rican President Oscar Arias and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

The southeast Asian country was known as Burma before the military government changed it to Myanmar.

The case is being tried behind closed doors inside a prison compound near Yangon. Police put up roadblocks outside, and turned away a group of Western diplomats who wanted to attend Monday.

On Tuesday, however, a U.S. Embassy official was allowed to watch the proceedings. Also Tuesday, the government-controll ed local media made its first mention of the trial -- after carrying no reports about it before it began, or on its first day.
The trial is expected to last about three months, said Nyan Win, a spokesman for Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy.

Suu Kyi, 63, and two of her maids have been detained under Section 22 of the country's legal code -- a law against subversion.

If convicted, Suu Kyi could face three to five years in prison.

The charges stem from May 3, when an American, John William Yettaw, allegedly swam almost two miles across the lake behind Suu Kyi's crumbling, colonial-era home and stayed for two days.

The government said Yettaw presence in the closely guarded home violated the conditions of Suu Kyi's house arrest.

The country's regime rarely allows Suu Kyi any visitors, and foreigners are not allowed overnight stays in local households without government permission.

Yettaw, a 53-year-old former military serviceman from Falcon, Missouri, is charged with violating immigration laws and trespassing in a restricted area. The charges carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

A lawyer selected by the U.S. Embassy is representing him.

Suu Kyi's lawyers are expected to argue that the pro-democracy advocate knew nothing about the American's plan to visit her and that she tried in vain to get him to leave.

The defense also will try to turn the charges on their head, arguing that the government has failed to protect Suu Kyi.

"Frankly, she does not believe she did any offense," said Jared Genser, a Washington, D.C.-based lawyer who is one of the attorneys defending her.
Another lawyer, U Kyi Win, said Yettaw refused to leave -- first saying he didn't want to swim in daylight for fear of being captured, and later blaming leg cramps.

Suu Kyi didn't tell authorities about the visit because she didn't want get Yettaw or anyone else in trouble, U Kyi Win said.

The Nobel laureate has been the face of Myanmar's pro-democracy movement and the focus of a global campaign to free her. Her National League for Democracy party won over 80 percent of the legislative seats in 1990. She was disqualified from serving because of her house arrest, and the military junta ignored the results.

The government has said next year's scheduled elections will re-introduce democracy in Myanmar. But its plan includes a clause that forbids citizens who bore children with foreigners from running for office.

This makes Suu Kyi ineligible. She married a British man and has two sons with him.

Master's graduates in Scientific Instrumentation will be qualified to work
in industry, in research institutes or as engineering consultants. With
their broad knowledge in engineering physics as well as in precision
engineering they are especially prepared to perform interdisciplinary work.
Their strength is the application of scientific knowledge to engineering
problems. A Master's graduate in Scientific Instrumentation will be able to
serve as the link between pure scientists and engineers in an
interdisciplinary workgroup. He or she will be prepared to cope with new
application problems by being trained in systematic analysis and diagnosis
of a problem as well as in methods of finding solutions.

Typical employment areas in industry are research and development of novel
apparatus and devices, the supervision of hightech processes or tasks in
quality control, in research institutes in areas of work like physics
technology, process engineering, biomedical research, earth and
environmental science, aviation and astronautics.

The Master's degree in Scientific Instrumentation also qualifies the
graduate for further study to award a PhD.

May God help you as you seek a brighter future!
